Update on Lincoln
So I’ve not posted in a while. There’s been a lot going on. Therefore I’ve not posted in a long time.
So here’s the update:
I’ve a new job.
We’ve just had a new baby.
I’ve done pretty well on my GMAT and expect to apply to the Edinburgh MBA in the Spring.
We’ve left the Navs but we hope to continue to support the Edinburgh ministry.
We’re probably going to join a church house-group.
Another reason I’ve not been blogging is that I’ve been getting into other web phenonmenon.
I’ve got profiles at Shelfari, Divvs, Squidoo and I’m a member of Triiibes (if you don’t know what it is…). I’m intrigued by Ning and interested in Get Satisfaction. I update Twitter a lot more regularly as it satisfies my desire to get stuff out there quickly and simply. I update Twitter using HelloTxt which is a pretty good service and takes care of updating LinkedIn and Facebook as well. Faceboook has become a drag and so I use it less and less. It’s just a way to keep track of casual connections.
I’m reading Abraham Kuyper’s lectures on Calvinism as well as listening to a course on Reformation & Modern Church History. I’ve just listened to Ancient & Medieval Church History and it’s really been very helpful. Church history really helps give perspective in these times when people throw words around (old and new) without knowing what they mean (emergent, missional, …anyone?). I’ve found taking in serious material is a lot more useful than reading the stuff that is churned out in blogs and in other ways every day. As someone said: “If you rake you will get leaves, but if you dig you might find diamonds”.
I’ve also been increasing my intake of business books. I think Drucker is worth studying in depth but many books that just have one idea, that once understood, can be read relatively quickly. So: The Long Tail, Good to Great, Difficult Conversations, Small is the New Big, Management – are all on the go or about to be.
If you want to know what is going on get a Twitter account and add me. I post often(ish) but the content is of limited value.. though I did get a great book review the other day on Twitter.
I’ve also got another blog on the go. I’m taking it seriously and therefore I’m not going to plug it here.
I am reading a lot of blogs.
My most regular is still a great Arsenal blog. I scan many, many RSS feeds. I’ll not update you on any those, as I’ve plugged them before on my blog.
